Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has defeated 13 other aspirants to clinch the presidential primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He polled 1,271 votes to defeat others in the APC special convention which kicked off on Tuesday.

Rotimi Amaechi, former minister of transportation and top contender, polled 316 votes while Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo got 235 votes.

Rochas Okorocha, Tein Jack-Rich and Tunde Bakare got zero votes; Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba got one vote; David Umahi polled 38 votes; Ogbonnaya Onu got one vote; Yahaya Bello polled 47 votes, and Ben Ayade got 37 votes.

Senate President Ahmad Lawan, the “consensus candidate” of Abdullahi Adamu, APC national chairman, polled 152 votes.

More than 2,300 delegates voted in the contest that produced Tinubu as the presidential flagbearer of the ruling party.

He is now scheduled to face the Peoples Democratic Party’s Atiku Abubakar and others in the February 25 presidential ballot.
